Abstract

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic disease and is associated with the presence of higher amount of the fungus Malassezia sp. on the skin of the affected individual. When associated with secondary infection, it may present elementary characteristics that differs from the classical pattern, making its diagnosis complex.

The aim of this study was to report a case of infected seborrheic dermatitis, in which the patient underwent previous hospitalization with intravenous antibiotic for the condition, was discharged without closing the diagnosis and then presented recurrence of lesions. At this time, she sought our service for diagnosis and treatment.

We subjected the patient to anamnesis and complete physical examination with subsequent request for anatomopathological examination in the affected region.

With the biopsy linked to physical examination we can make the diagnosis and start therapy indicated.

Pathological examination can guide us to an exacerbated skin pathology. After its result we were able to close the diagnosis and succeed in treatment.
