Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory and recurrent disease characterized by erythema, infiltration and scaling of the skin. About 2% to 3% of the world's population has some degree of this disease, where phototherapy with UVB-NB reduces the need for topical therapies and is a highly recommended treatment. The present work aims to verify the efficacy of phototherapy with UVB-NB in the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis. The bibliographic review was based on materials found in the literature such as articles, dissertations, theses and abstracts in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases, in the time frame from 2001 to 2022, both in English and in Portuguese and that describe the topic of interest. The results appreciated that NB-UVB irradiation regulated inflammatory factors in patients affected by psoriasis. It is more effective after the fifth session, being contraindicated for patients with photosensitivity and a history of melanoma or skin cancer. UVB-NB irradiation regulated the expression of inflammatory factors in psoriasis patients with greater efficacy when topical or systemic therapy was discovered.
