Abstract
As Covid-19 has spread worldwide, several pathogens of fungal and bacterial origin have caused alarming and challenging co- infections in the clinical management of patients with impaired immunity due to Covid-19. This paper aims to present the background on Covid-19 and its association with fungal diseases caused by the mucormycosis fungus. A literature review was conducted on the relationship of mucormycosis in patients with COVID-19, where articles published worldwide were used as a source of research, between the years 2017 and 2022 in PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar databases. The autoinflammatory process of COVID-19 develops results of immune dysfunction and fungal infection such as mucormycosis. The significant increase in its incidence is through severe acute respiratory syndrome and the use of corticosteroids, where diabetes and other factors may also influence. Given the above, through the reviews presented, early treatment with liposomal amphotericin B as well as surgery are important for the effective management of mucormycosis in patients with COVID-19.
