Abstract
Lichen planus nail is an inflammatory disease of the nails. It may be present in association with lichen planus of the skin and mucous membranes or affect only the nails. It affects important structures of the nail unit such as nail matrix and nail bed. Its causes are still not fully understood. The objective of this study was to address the treatment of nail lichen planus. This is a narrative literature review of publications in journals. A bibliographic search was carried out through the search sources in the following databases: LILACS), Medline and SciELO, published in Portuguese and English in the last five years. The recommended treatment for nail lichen planus is corticoid, considered the “gold standard” and can be done as a local, intralesional and even oral treatment, depending on each case. Other options include oral retinoids, tacrolimus, and biological therapy. It can be seen that by identifying several signs characteristically observed in nail lichen planus, one can identify in the evolutionary stages and prevent progression through timely treatment. Lichen planus of the nails is mostly recalcitrant to treatment and therefore difficult to cure.
