Abstract
Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis reported by Benjamin Schenck in 1896. Most cases are from Central and South American countries, where in Brazil it is a public health problem. The present article reports a difficulty in diagnosing a case of suspected PLECTs. Female patient, 6 years old, reported that she had a single lesion in the right malar region, asymptomatic, with local and progressive growth, the patient was treated with topical medications for 1 year. Pathological analysis was performed and the result came back negative for the disease under investigation, but the culture was confirmed for fungi with Sporothrix schenckki complex. Ulcers are a diagnostic challenge, and histopathological studies are often insufficient. The dermatologist with suspected sporotrichosis should be attentive to the request for culture of the lesion.
