Abstract
Acne is a very prevalent disease in the world's population, including pregnant women. Many doctors consider it only in the aesthetic scope and opt for less effective and even inappropriate treatment due to lack of knowledge of the medications allowed during pregnancy. The objective of this work is to supply dermatologists with a review of the drugs available for treatment of gestational acne, describing their action and safety based on the classification of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) so the disease could be properly managed. A literature review of the last 10 years has been done on PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo platforms, in search of therapeutic options in the treatment of acne in pregnant women. Topical, oral and light-based treatment options are mentioned, discussing the mechanisms of action for acne control and the safety profile for gestational use. The dermatologists must manage acne gestational in an appropriate way, considering the clinical indications, personal considerations, patient comorbidities based on the knowledge of safe medications availble.
