Abstract

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) has been presented as a clinical condition that negatively affects the individual's self-esteem, compromising their appearance. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been considered a new therapeutic option for AGA. The general objective is to discuss the possible benefits of PRP in the treatment of male AGA, and the specifics are: to evidence the indication and the effectiveness of the application of PRP in the treatment of male AAG. This is a descriptive study, based on a literature review, whose sources come from PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Twenty-one publications were included, from 2014 to 2022, written in Portuguese and English. Samples are small, the interval between applications is variable and the follow-up is short. Still, PRP was considered a safe, economical, and efficient method for treating male AGA. Demonstrate to be a resource for the treatment of male AGA. However, further studies are needed with more expressive samples and longer follow-up time, in order to establish its correct indication, as well as the standardization of protocols for its preparation and applications.
