Abstract
Androgenetic alopecia is common skin condition responsible for causing hair loss in both men and women. Many treatments are available, including topical Minoxidil. However, the effectiveness of oral Minoxidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia has been discussed. The most recent publications were analyzed to understand the latest on the use of oral Minoxidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, focusing on its safety and efficacy. The articles selected to compose this literature review were published in English between 2020 and 2022 and are available in the PubMed/MedLine database by searching for the term "oral minoxidil". After reading the titles and abstracts, 7 studies remained, which were individually analyzed. The analyzed studies demonstrate that oral Minoxidil is a viable option for androgenetic alopecia, especially when used in low doses. Oral Minoxidil is a well-accepted drug for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, with tolerable side effects, in addition to demonstrating positive effects in different populations and degrees of hair loss.
