Abstract
The advanced stage of some scalp pathologies can be treated with hair transplantation techniques. The Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is an autoimmune scarring alopecia that progresses with permanent hair destruction, directly affecting the self-esteem and self-image of individuals affected by the disease. The present study aims to present the main information related to LPP, diagnosis, and forms of treatment with an emphasis on hair transplantation, addressing updated scientific information, and corroborating the understanding of comorbidity. A literature review was carried out in the databases SciELO, MedLine, and CAPES. The descriptors: Lichen Planopilaris; Hair Transplantation and Dermatology were used with the boolean operator “and”. Twenty studies were used in this review, with a temporal limitation, from the last 19 years (2003 to 2022). The LPP requires an early diagnosis in order to prevent scarring alopecia. Most are women between 40 and 60 years old, with the possibility of progressing to extensive hair destruction. In these cases, hair transplantation can be an effective and safe therapeutic option.
