Abstract
Acne is popularly seen as a chronic skin condition, affecting teenagers and adults all over the world. Where, about 80% of cases are in adult women who started in childhood and persisted into adulthood. This work aims to evaluate the influence of acne on adult women, as well as to show its mechanisms of action, adverse treatments and contraindications. A review of the literature on acne in adult women was carried out, where journals were found in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases, from 2010 to 2021. In the studies presented, it was possible to verify that women's self-esteem is affected by acne, where the proper diagnosis and treatment, as well as a good diet can generate promising results, but for specific cases the combination therapy can be an alternative that can bring unwanted side effects. Given the above, the proper approach of the dermatologist in the investigation and treatment of acne in adult women, presents a differential in the relief of disorders for these women affected by the disease.
