Abstract
Tinea capitis is a dermatophytosis that affects the scalp, eyebrows and eyelid. Kerion celsi is a rare and worsened manifestation of tinea capitis resulting from an intense immune response to the fungal infection. The objective of this study is to present a case of kerion celsi in a 7-year-old boy, from diagnosis to follow-up treatment performed in the countryside of Brazil. The review was performed using the SciELO and MedLine databases. The descriptors: Dermatophytosis; Trichology and kerion celsi were used with the Boolean operator “and”, between 2016 and 2022. Brazilian and foreign studies in English and Portuguese were included. Follow-up was approximately 6 months. Direct mycological examination and culture were negative, but trichoscopic examination showed classic features of kerion celsi. Five different therapeutic phases were proposed, with total remission and excellent hair regrowth. Primary recognition and early introduction of treatment are essential for the management. The diagnosis of the present study was concluded through clinical and trichoscopy findings, despite the negative culture.
