Abstract

Granulomatous periorificial dermatitis and granulomatous rosacea are inflammatory diseases that manifest as erythematous papules or microvesicles on the face. The distinction between the two is substantial for the success of treatment. The aim of this article was to report a case of doubtful diagnosis between granulomatous periorificial dermatitis or granulomatous rosacea. Female patient, 17 years old, previously treated for atopic dermatitis. The initial diagnosis of granulomatous rosacea was questioned by the patient's evolution after several therapeutic attempts. The same happened after reviewing the case with the hypothesis of granulomatous periorificial dermatitis, showing the difficulty of differentiating between these two entities. The diagnosis between granulomatous periorificial dermatitis and granulomatous rosacea is mostly clinical, but it is important to perform biopsy and histopathology to rule out other diagnostic hypotheses.
