Abstract

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory disease with a multifactorial etiology. In recent years, the literature has suggested the influence of changes in the intestinal microbiota on the immune system. Therefore, studies have been conducted to assess the effectiveness of using probiotics in their treatment. The aim of the present study is to analyze the effectiveness of the use of probiotics in the treatment o f atopic dermatitis in adults and its pathophysiology through the analysis of previously selected studies. Articles published in English and available on the Medline/PubMed platform, published between 2010 and 2019, were selected and analyzed the effective ness of the use of probiotics in adults with atopic dermatitis. Fiftyfive studies were found, seven of which were selected to compose the object of analysis of this study. The analysis demonstrated that the use of probiotics in the management of atopic de rmatitis in adults may be beneficial in some cases. No adverse effects were identified. However, the characteristics of the disease demand that new studies be produced, especially in adults.
