Abstract
Introduction:The aging of the world population is a reality and there are a number of repercussions generated by this process, highlighting the physiological changes that corroborate the loss of muscle mass and negatively impact the quality of life of this population. Objective:To report the case of an elderly woman with a desire to increase muscle strength and discuss the supply and quality of proteins needed to prevent sarcopenia in the aging population. Methodology: Female patient, 81 years old, with complaints of fatigue and loss of muscle strength in the last 2 years. The patient underwent dietary readjustment, regular introduction of physical activities and supplementation with isolated animal protein for 6 months. Results: After changing her lifestyle and increasing the intake of protein supplements, the patient had an increase in muscle mass and strength and improvement in reported fatigue. Conclusion: Sarcopenia mainly affects the elderly. There is a progressive loss of strength and muscle mass, being a pathology that commonly impair quality of life. In this sense, the prevention and/or reversal of the disease are essential.
