Abstract
Minoxidil is a common medication that has been increasingly prescribed by physicians to treat a wide range of problems related to hair loss and other hair disorders and can be presented both topically and orally. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the adherence of patients to therapeutic responses and adverse effects in the use of topical and oral minoxidil. A review of literature directed to the area of interest was conducted, where it was found journals in PubMed and Google Scholar databases, in the period from 2013 to 2020. In the studies presented it was possible to verify that both oral and topical use had significant relevance, even though minoxidil has good tolerance, it triggers some adverse effects in patients, which requires a thorough analysis of each case. Given the above, topical minoxidil is considered an effective and safe treatment option for various hair disorders and oral minoxidil stands out as an alternative option for patients who have difficulty using the topical formulation, besides having an excellent safety level.
