Abstract

Introduction: Pseudoxanthoma elasticum is a generalized connective tissue disease involving the skin, eyes and cardiovascular system, triggering the fragmentation and calcification of elastic fibers. Objectives: To carry out a case report on pseudoxanthoma elasticum, including clinical features, diagnosis and treatment. Materials/Subjects and Methods: M.N.S., 59 years old, female, resident of the city of São Miguel – São Paulo, Brazil. She has phototype IV, makes daily use of omeprazole and aluminum hydroxide. She entered the Dermatology outpatient clinic of the BWS Institution, reporting cysts on the face and back 20 years ago, and lesions with flaccidity in the neck, décolleté and armpits since childhood. Results: Almost all manifestations of Pseudoxanthoma elasticum were present on physical examination. After corroborating the patient's symptoms with the complementary tests performed, it was concluded that he had the disease. The patient will be followed up at the Dermatology outpatient clinic to control clinical manifestations. Conclusions: The importance of the report is to expand the knowledge about this pathology, for patients to seek a dermatologist at the beginning of the appearance of lesions, and to be carried out an early diagnosis and treatment, make all the difference in the evolution of the disease. Abstract:Pseudoxanthoma elasticum is a generalized connective tissue disease involving the skin, eyes and cardiovascular system, triggering the fragmentation and calcification of elastic fibers. For this study, articles and case reports from the Scielo website were used. (Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum: a case report - 2017. Pseudoxanthoma elasticum: a case report - 2016. Pseudoxanthoma elasticum: a case report - 2009). The patient will be followed up at the Dermatology outpatient clinic to control the manifestations of the dermatological disease, in addition to progressive visual deterioration. Almost all manifestations of the disease were present, including the eyes. After corroborating the patient's symptoms with the complementary tests performed, it was concluded that he had pesudoxanthoma elasticum or Gronblad Strandberg syndrome due to the presence of angioid streaks and skin lesions.
