Abstract
Blepharoplasty in the eyelids can restore local function and aesthetics. Techniques for performing the procedure are constantly renewing, so it is necessary understand possible complications. This article of narrative review of the literature gathered the most relevant findings on the topic to generate information about complications of eyelid blepharoplasty from different possible approaches in the procedure alone or associated with other components. The keywords “eyelid blepharoplasty” and “complications” guided the search in the Medline database. A time restriction and study design were used and 16 studies were obtained, of which 6 were selected to compose this review. The results indicate that blepharoplasty is a safe procedure that can be followed without complications if the professional is prepared. Professionals must be trained and updated on the most effective approaches for the desired outcome, whether functional or aesthetic. Further studies on the subject are needed.
