Abstract
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic disease, with an outbreak, predominant in childhood, whose main symptom is pruritus of varying intensity and signs of cutaneous xerosis and eczematous lesions. Literature review based on academic databases such as the USP library, SciELO and etc., using the terms “atopic dermatitis”. The skin presents genetic alterations as well as factors such as microbiome, exposome and xenobiotics which interfere in the condition of AD. Such factors, however, can be treated with therapies such as emollients, antihistamines, topical immunosuppressants, among others. The new approaches to AD, as well as the external elements that can aggravate this pathology were raised in this review. Understanding the types of treatment that patients receive and their relationship with genetic and psychological factors contribute to a better treatment choice.
