Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is defined as pruritic inflammation related to atopic diseases - asthma, rhinitis, among others - and IgE elevation, being up to 20% prevalent in children and around 10% in adults worldwide. Its origin is attributed to multifactoriness involving genetic propensity and immune dysregulation. It has variable presentation by age and disease severity, being marked by itching and dry skin. Its treatment aims to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life with the lowest collateral risk, striving for the removal of triggering factors and restoration of the skin barrier - hydration - together with the use of corticosteroids and Calcineurin inhibitors in moderate forms.
