Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, which occurs predominantly in infants and children. It is often associated with abnormalities in the skin barrier and with allergic sensitization.
The diagnosis is based on clinical history and physical examination findings.
The present case report is about a patient monitored at the dermatology outpatient clinic of the Healthy Skin Association with severe atopic dermatitis.
The study showed that the use of cyclosporine was a powerful therapeutic alternative in the treatment of severe AD and repair of the skin barrier.
Clinical and laboratory parameters were observed and followed closely, so that the side effects of using this drug could be minimized.
Cyclosporine is another effective treatment option and can be used especially in cases refractory to the most well-known treatments and as a rescue drug.
