Abstract
Abstract
Frontal fibrosing alopecia is a primary lymphocytic scarring alopecia, described in 1994 and known as a clinical variant of lichen planus pillar. Extrinsic and intrinsic factors are linked to hair loss and causing a rapid increase in worldwide prevalence; which draws the attention of scholars to new scientific work in the field. The objectives are to carry out a literature review on Frontal fibrosing alopecia, to expose the most recent findings on incidence / prevalence, etiology, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. This is a narrative review of the literature and bibliographic search using the terms "cicatricial alopecia", "frontal fibrosing alopecia" and "treatment". The searches selected the works published between the years 1994 and 2020, excluding articles published before the reported date and those that evaded the topic. They addressed in a descriptive way the most current aspects of incidence / prevalence, pathology, etiology, diagnosis and treatment of Frontal fibrosing alopecia. Currently, the incidence / prevalence of the disease is increasing considerably in the world population; there are unknowns regarding pathogenesis, etiology and treatment. Early and differential diagnosis cannot be neglected and treatments seem to be effective in theory, but in practice, further studies are needed to prove their effectiveness.
