Abstract

Introduction: The gold standard diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma is based on histological analysis. Clinical features of the lesions and dermoscopic findings increase sensivity and diagnostic specificity. Staging melanoma drives prognosis and treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of melanoma diagnoses, based on histopathology, in biopsied lesions at the Dermatology service of the Faculdades BWS.

Methods: Retrospective analytical and epidemiological study with review of cases seen at the Dermatology service, from January 2018 to December 2020, by collecting clinical, topographic, dermoscopic and histological data.

Results: Data from 42 suspected lesions confirmed for melanoma were evaluated in the period. The findings showed no gender predilection, estimated age between 50-60 years, as well as preferential location in the trunk and limbs.

Conclusions: Given the magnitude of the evolution of a melanoma and its consequent deleterious effects, if in an advanced stage, failing to make an early diagnosis can be fatal for the patient. The results of the study show similarities with the epidemiological data in the national and international melanoma literature.
